Instructions
Homemade Applesauce
Add the diced apples to a small saucepan over medium low heat. As they begin to cook down, mash with a fork or potato masher. If they are sticking and need help getting started, add water 1 Tbsp at a time.
Stir in a generous dash of cinnamon or apple pie spice.
Cook 5-10 minutes, to reach your desired consistency. Save the remainder for another breakfast or a snack, in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
Oats
Cook your oats using your desired method - stovetop, microwave, Instant Pot, etc. Add a tiny pinch of salt and a generous dash of apple pie spice or cinnamon during cooking.
Mix a big scoop of the warm applesauce into the oats.
Garnish with nuts, your desired protein (see above), apple slices, and another dash of cinnamon.
Notes
DIY Apple Pie Spice:
1.5 Tbsp ground cinnamon
1.5 tsp ground nutmeg
1 tsp allspice
For a gluten-free breakfast, be sure to use certified gluten-free oats.
